The Shallow End

The Shallow End

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2Co 11:3

There are some people who try and delve deep into every little thing in God’s word and they over emphasize, many times, things which really don’t matter at all, while completely overlooking the things that matter most. Please do not misunderstand me. There is nothing in the word of God which does not matter; I must say that because it is true. Men do, however, often fail in proper application of scripture and will twist God’s word and say just what they want too. This is a perversion of truth.

Having been a swimming instructor in the past I know that those who are just beginning to learn to swim are to stay in the shallow end of the pool. That is just common sense. I also know, as you do, that there is no diving board on the shallow end. The man who would dive headlong into shallow water is likely to break his foolish neck. We can also apply this principle to the study of the word of God. There are those who foolishly jump into deep water before they learn to swim, and totally miss all the basic simple truth that we find in the shallows. And we need the basics in order to rightly divide and understand the deeper things. Many need to go back to the shallow end of the pool.
