“But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”

(Hebrews 12:8)

There is a great deal of controversy as to whether God will actually deal with Christians in such ways as to cause them suffering in the flesh. Some say the God just does not operate that way in this present age of Grace. My friend, God killed Ananias and Saphira in the book of Acts for lying. They simply dropped dead at the feet of Peter and were carried out and buried. God still deals with people by allowing trials and suffering in the flesh. Moses’ warning to the children of Israel when they were preparing to enter the promised land was,

“Be sure your sins will find you out.”

The same thing is true today. God will punish us now for our failures and shortcomings. We are not going to hell and the chastisement of God is just one evidence for us to see that we are saved. Look at Hebrews 12:5-7…

“…despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?”

We will suffer chastening at the hand of God. Sin in the life of any one of us that we know we should get out of our lives is just adding to the misery that is in store. When you feel guilty for doing wrong that is the first step in God’s dealing with you. If you do not heed that warning from the Holy Spirit then you will soon suffer judgement. It would behoove us to judge ourselves and clean ourselves up before God has to do it for us. He will do it in ways that we just don’t want to see it done. Maybe you have unconfessed sin in your life. Won’t you give it to God and ask His forgiveness? You may be surprised at who already knows that there is something wrong. God certainly does know. Don’t put it off. If you need help and/or forgiveness, talk to God today. He is just waiting to hear from you. And a lot of heartache may, just that easily, be avoided.
